Label: "James Daugherty - New York"

Designed by the iconic African American designer James Daugherty in the mid 1970s.
James Daugherty's early career began at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles. The legendary costume designer Edith Head gave him his first job as a sketch artist on the films "The Ten Commandments", "The King and I" and "Funny Girl". Daugherty also worked on many of the costumes for "I Love Lucy". After working for Edith Head, Daugherty moved to New York and began designing for Maurie Rentner, Pat Sandler, Bill Blass, Anne Klein and James Galanos. In 1974 he opened his own showroom on 7th Ave and in 1976 was named Designer of the Year by the Fashion Sales Guild.
