Victorian Carnelian Ring Swan And Diamond 14k Rose Of Sharon

This unusual Victorian ring (circa 1880s, going by the style) is tricked out in gold leafing with a swan nestling under a flower whose center is a teeny-tiny diamond. It's a delicate, serene scene that speaks to love--as swans always do. They mate for life, so the Victorians made the most of the symbolism.

Rings with etched flower motifs are also called Rose of Sharon--again meaning unfailing love. Combine that with the swan symbol, and you have a very powerful statement.

This would have been for a sweetheart or wife, possibly even serving as a wedding ring.

The setting is classic Victorian, testing at around 14K: yellow gold that has just hint of rose gold in the finish. Note the carving on the shoulders and around the bezel.

Measurements;
The red-brown carnelian stone measures 1/2 inch by 1/4 inch. The tiny rose-cut diamond is approximately .95 mm, according to a jeweler. It looks about the size of a pencil tip if you sharpened it and then wrote two sentences.

It's a very rich, delicate, and special piece. It is in very good antique condition, with minor wear to the stone and the leafing.

It can be resized, but there are some initials on the solid inside of the band. If you have the piece resized, they will be gone. They are hard to photograph, being in that very delicate Victorian engraving--just know that they are there (and represent another message of love). I think the initials are P.B.G. The band is 4 mm wide at that point.

The fancy vintage box is not included. Your ring will come in a modern, basic jeweler's box.

From a nonsmoking, pet-loving home.
