50s Large Vintage Faux Topaz Cut Paste Cocktail Ring

This is a large statement ring. The cut topaz colored glass measures .75 to .5 inch and was made to mimic a topaz. The antiqued, gold plated setting holding the stone is extremely detailed with Romanesque flower and rope designs. The twisted rope design on the antiqued gold shaft of the ring is a size 8, but will fit down to a size 7 utilizing the inner spring band. The prongs holding the stone in seem to be strong and secure.

This ring is circa 1950 and made by a high end costume jewelry maker of the time. The first half of the 20th century was the heyday for well made costume jewelry sold from fine department stores to Woolworth, usually made in Europe or the United States. The manufacture and quality of costume jewelry deteriorated in the latter part of the century making this era the last with enduring products.

This style of accessory was usually worn at fancy cocktail parties, which were very popular at the time. Sometimes, these over the top pieces were known as, " cocktail" jewelry.

There are no marks or manufacturer name on this piece.

NecromanceNOLA sells this type of vintage jewelry often since it was well made, usually plated multiple times and had unique design. The plating is still in excellent condition.
