60's Black Silk Chiffon One Shoulder Cocktail Dress

Vintage black cocktail dress from the late 1950's to early 1960's. Fabric is a deep flat black silk chiffon. Styled with one shoulder holding a snap closing satin bow and the other shoulder open with only a thin spagetti strap which could be worn tucked inside. A double layer chiffon ruffle runs completely around the top edges. Bodice is boned with a set in waist and side metal zipper, completely lined. The look is more of a form fitting style.

Excellent condition with no issues.

Label is Edward Abbot, New York, Wilson Folmar. Wilson Folmar was the head designer of the custom department at exclusive department store Jay – Thorpe from 1936 – 1956. He also designed for Ben Gam and Maurice Rentner in the 1950s and in 1957 he became the designer for Edward Abbott. In 1964, he formed his own company, Wilson Folmar, Inc., which produced a line of medium to high priced cocktail and evening clothes. The company went out of business in 1972.
